Amtrak #27 & #28
On October 25, 1981, Amtrak’s Empire Builder was rerouted off Stampede Pass (ex-NP) and onto Stevens Pass (ex-GN).  This left Ellensburg and Yakima without train service in Eastern Washington, but added train service to Wenatchee and Ephrata, WA.  At the same time a new section of the Empire Builder was created.
Trains 27/28 began service between Portland, OR and Spokane, WA adding train service to Bingen-White Salmon and Wishram.  The main section from Seattle and the “baby Builder” from Portland are combined at Spokane.  The westbound train is split at Spokane for their trips west.
